Religious Symbolism
I see a lot of people complain about how the whole world couldn't be covered in water from the polar ice caps melting. I'm thinking there is some symbolism going on here, as in when God flooded the whole world, so maybe there's a bit of a supernatural element. Add to that the obvious allusion to Adam and Eve with the two skeletons at the end, it seems obvious.
