Val's attitude toward Albert, his father, and the whole scenario.

I wrote other post and somehow it did not go through so I am writing a quick secondary post on the same topic. I felt it was wrong how Val treats Albert, his Father, and just the mere fact that he thought it was OK to hide who his Father was, ask Albert to leave, all for a girl who only knew for a year. The whole thing was shameful on the part of the character. I hadn't seen the movie, which I love, for a long time, and when I saw it recently I just could not stand Val's character. I understand he is supposed to be young, his fiance's father is a conservative Senator and the 90's were even less accepting of homosexual couples than they are today, but I mean Jesus. You are basically saying *beep* you to your own Father, and pretty much to the man who is your second Father, as well as crawling back to the woman who abandoned you all for the sake of gaining acceptance from your fiance's family? By the way, even if they pulled it off, would there never be the possibility that the two families would meet again? Children, holidays, etc. I know without this premise there is no movie, but damn if it didn't bother me. I also felt like the character was pretty cold to Albert in general considering he helped raise Val.

The last post I wrote was much more articulate in my argument, but I think you guys will get the point I'm trying to make.

I agree 100%. If I were Albert I would have left and not come back.

Meh, if Val were any kind of man he would have said "Screw her parents who cares?" And really, who DOES care?

I watched this again tonight and I came here to post the same thing. I can't stand Val. He was incredibly selfish, ungrateful and disrespectful to his parents, Armand and Albert. They could have still made this movie without him being such an asshole.
