Anyone else feel sorry for Caesar ?

In the scene where he's trashing Johny's place, looking for the money and totally unraveling, I must admit I did feel a pang of sympathy. Usually characters like him are written as dumb, to make it easier for the heroes to outsmart them, but Caesar knew right away he was being conned and knew exactly what the person who stole his money WANTED him to do (run so he'd look guilty to Gino and Mickey). He showed a surprising amount of intelligence, level-headedness, and resourcefulness in trying to dig himself out of his $2,000,000 grave. It was refreshing to have a villain who was not portrayed as a complete idiot just to make the main characters look smart by comparison.

But in the end I was not sad to see him die.

No. I didn't feel sorry for him. Not after that torture scene. Yes he didn't do the torture, but he seemed very comfortable around it.

No, but this really shows the kind of people that are attracted to this lifestyle. From what I remember of the movie (I saw it a long time ago), while Violet was not happy in her relationship, Ceaser had never really wronged her in any way, yet she was willing to betray him in a way that would get him killed, so she was no saint. Just despicable people all around.
