I know this was done in 1996. It was on cable last night, and I happened to put it on the tv and there in front of me was a skinny, emaciated Matt Damon. I kept saying "who is this guy, I know him!!!", and then I said "this cannot be Matt Damon, why the hell does he look like this? I didn't see the whole film. Was there a reason he was so skinny in this movie? My god, he looked like he's anorexic.

shareExactly. In the present-day scenes in which he is a heroin addict, he is extremely thin. In the flashback scenes with Meg Ryan, he is a healthy weight. He is not skinny all through the movie. His character deteriorated after the events in the Gulf War.
