Would an M16 and a SAW sound that different ?

I'm no expert but they do both fire the same round wouldnt they sound a lot alike ?

It's mainly a rate of fire thing, but they do sound slightly different.

Pretty much. The cyclic rate of fire for a SAW is much higher than for an M-16. The SAW also has a longer barrel, and a different gas recoil system, adding to variations in the sound.

Yes, the M249 SAW has actually a metallic whipping noise in it's shots, due to the extremely high rate of fire and the fact that it is belt fed. The M16 makes a spitting noise because of the barrel structure and firind mechanism.
