Just a dumb parody of Escape From NY

I'm a huge fan of Escape from New York. So naturally I was excited to see this film. Saw it opening weekend when it was released. I initially thought it was OK but upon a second viewing I realize what a fkn travesty this film is. It's almost as though I am watching a Mad magazine parody on film. Just the entire mood of the film felt like a joke. The original was much darker and menacing while this one went from one joke to another. The greatest redeeming quality of the film is the score.



Sadly, Carpenter had lost his mojo by the time this film was made. He gets much respect from me for the slew of excellent films he made in the 70s and 80s but I truly think the last good film he did was In the Mouth of Madness.

EFNY had some dark humour, a realistic dystopian atmosphere, and good acting.

I recently watched EFNY and it still impresses me with the dark and creepy mood it puts you in. LA was so friggin' cartoonish. Look, Snake can play basketball! Look, Snake can surf!(rolls eyes) It's like aw geez, enough already. Why don't you bust out a disco ball and have Snake do The Hustle.

LOL!!!! I really couldn't believe this movie was made! My husband and I watched it last night because we were bored. But holy smokes, I wasn't expecting it to be that awful!

Yeah, it was pretty bad. It reminded me of something Tarantino said once that directors really should hang it up after 10 films or so because usually after that they taint their legacy with garbage work.
