Surfing scene

Watched this last night on TV for the first time in about 15 years. I wonder if anybody can help me? I vividly remember a long surfing scene in it where snake and somebody else ride a wave for ages. but on last nights viewing the only surfing scene lasts about 2 seconds when he jumps on steve buscemis car.blink and you miss it type thing

has this been cut, was it an additional scene etc?

any help appreciated. i may be thinking of something else or dreamt that scene completely

Must have cut it for TV. The longer scene you remember is in the movie, and probably on YouTube.

reply

Yeah, must have been cut, because the scene is about a minute long. Since there's no objectionable content in that scene, I would guess that they cut it because it simply looks stupid. I mean, the special effects didn't even look good (to me at least) when it first came out, and time hasn't been kind to it on top of that. The only other reason they'd cut it is for time, but seeing as it's probably the most famous (or infamous, depending on who you talk to) scene in the movie and it was depicted on the movie poster and home video packaging, you wouldn't think it would be something they simply cut for time.

Ill be honest, that surfing scene is awesome. And it didn't look like they used CGI for the water It was real water matted onto a fake background so it didn't look that bad.

They probably edited it out of the tv version coz people dislike it for some reason

It also may have been cut just to avoid a legal and/or financial hassle for the song that plays during that part, "Scalped" by Dick Dale. Music rights are sometimes a problem when movies are broadcast or get new video releases.

Music rights tend to be less of an issue for films shown on tv though.

That scene is hilarious! I love it. Peter Fonda's character, Pipeline, is awesome.
