4.9, why?

How can u hate this movie it was really good this should be around 5.7 or 6.0

reply

Most of critics hate such simple and heart-felt movies as well as many people think that it's just a cheesy movie for kids only. For adults if you love such movies it's like you show complete incompetence and stupidity.
Personally I'm agree that 4,9 is too low. 6.0-6.4 is looking more fair.

I think it's because it's naturalist. But who am I to talk, I only gave this film 4\10.

I totally agree with Singer15, it's not a bad movie. It's not the best movie ever either, but it's a good movie for the family.

THE 4th SEASON IS COMING... 4 8 15 16 23 42

I agree as well. This film may not be perfect but it's still pretty good. Deserves more than 4.9.

Last movie seen: X men 2 = 8/10

reply

I agree. Adults might find it too simplistic, but for children it's a very, very nice film.

I never quite understood why it was so poorly received. Elijah didn't like the script and Paul Hogan was wooden, (not a big fan of his work) Elijah was quite good IMHO (totally unbiased) of course...lol.

yeah, I agree, I'd rate it a 7.0

reply

Dunno; I give it a 7, more like 7.5-8.

Juni78ukr had it about right. Basically, if any Hollywood production doesn't include tons of extremely gratuitous, gory violence, sexually-explicit scenes, harsh profanity every other sentence (including f-bombs and abusing God's Name) along with a totally illogical, meaningless and non-redemptive storyline -- or heaven forbid, gets labeled a "kids' movie" -- then it is automatically barred from earning any serious ratings in the 8.0 - 10 range from the jaded, desensitized "adult" moviegoers and "professional" critics.

As others have rightly pointed out, it's not like this is the greatest movie to ever hit the box office, technically or artistically-speaking. But other higher-profile family-oriented productions filmed in more recent years, with less restrictive budgets (i.e., The Chronicles of Narnia) haven't received much recognition, either. One can thank the increasingly detached and morally-relative society we live in for this disparity; although it's not too surprising considering that the etymology of the word "amuse" is derived from the French amuser - "to stupefy; stare stupidly at, gape" or to "waste time."
