Age Difference?

Jane Eyre is considered a classic romance story. No one seems to care about the age difference between fictional Jane and Edward. I'm just curious, what do some of you think about true life modern-day May/December relationships?

reply

Well...
to me age difference WOUDN'T be a problem...
but if one of the partners is too old, then he'll die sooner and make the other quite unhappy ;)

~ To be honest it wouldn't suit in that period of time for any to complain about the age differences.

I do want to know what you’re thinking
everything. I just wish… that you wouldn’t
be thinking some things.

As long as you love one another, what does age matter? :) That's my opinion. That, and the fact I'm a sucker for May/December relationships anyway. (To be illustrated quite well by how much more I got into Jane Austen's "Emma" when I realised there's 16 years between Emma and Mr. Knightley... *cough*)

The only one who seem bothered about the age difference in the book is Rochester, who worries he's too old, but yeah, in those days, age gap marriages weren't uncommon.
