New films

This is in response to some questions about new films of Jane Eyre. Yes, there is at least one upcoming Jane Eyre, perhaps two- it is unclear at this point. Over the past 6 months there have been several mysterious references to 'a new Jane Eyre' on press releases from the BBC and now Masterpiece Theatre. It is safe to assume that there is at least one in the works- we even have names for the director, writer, and producer.

Secondly, the 1973 BBCC version of Jane Eyre with Sorcha Cusack and Michael Jayston is set to be released- finally- in May of this year!

Details on all of these can be found at the bronte studies blog http://bronteana.blogspot.com

I have heard filming for a new Jane Eyre is due to start somewhere near where I live - where can I find out more details about who is directing/ writing/ producing it? I'd love to know who is going to be in it as I can keep my eyes open for them. When Keira filmed P&P near us she went to my Gym...though not on the same day as me!!!! GGGGGrrrrrrr!

Life on Mars is most definately the best thing on Uk TV at the moment. Infact there hasn't been anything that good for a very long time! I'll be sorry when it ends, though I know they're hoping to film series 2 soon. Is it the last one this Monday coming?

Back to Jane Eyre, I'd love to know who's going to be in it. I understand some of the actors will be staying locally. Think it's supposed to be a bit like Bleak House - though I missed quite a bit of that. So anyone know anything else about plans for Jane Eyre?

When they filmed P&P I saw one of the actresses off The Bill in our local Hotel. Funny thing was as I was used to seeing her on the TV I didn't realise who she was so I said 'Hello' like I knew her...then a few minutes later realised where I knew her from! LOL!

Hmmmmm now that's interesting thanks for that. I have been searching the internet for a snippet of information about developments but this is the best so far...

I'm surprised IMDB doesn't have anything yet. Bearing in mind they must be due to start filming shortly. Even the BBC don't seem to have anything on their website! I just looked up the name Ruth Wilson who they have named as Jane...but as there is one already listed will this mean she has to change her name, with regards to the actors register (why does the name of that escape me?).

I hope it has a good cast, did I read someone comment James Purefoy would be good for role of Mr. Rochester? If so I'd like to second that suggestion. I know Colin Firth would be marvellous but I as I haven't read the book (sorry) and only vaguely remember it being serialised when I was a child - I cannot recall how Mr. Rochester is supposed to come across. Can we not forgive Colin being too gorgeous? Doubt he'd do it anyway - Mr. Darcy was his baby. Long live Mr. Darcy!!!! LOL

I will read the book - at the moment I am reading P&P and finding it surprisingly easy to read - I think the BBC 1995 version has a lot to thank for it being so easy though - with Colin in my head as Darcy the whole thing swims along beautifully in my head!

I've always loved James Purefoy since he was in that programme about Blackpool/Brighton with Joey off Bread???? Long time ago!!!

I was also wondering if John Hannah couuld pull off Mr. Rochester? I like him, he's a fantastic actor.

Would Ray Winstone be too big???? I think he is amazing at playing dark characters with a loveable prescence?

Don't we have some great British talent? Be sure to let me know if you hear any more?

Hmm I feel a film crew invasion on the way. I've seen the location markers on the roadside just outside our village. So I suspect they will be with us soon.

I will off course let you know if I see anyone. LOL hopefully I won't think I know them like that actress from The Bill last time!

Yes it is quite. I have seen all the trailers and everything so I guess they are here! Not seen anyone yet. What a shame Colin Firth hasn't been cast

Why aren't IMDB listing this yet? They list a lot of films when they are mere pipe dreams. Yet this is actually filming!

Blusoop(or anyone else), do you know where the exterior shots of Thornfield are being filmed?

reply

I believe the Thornfield is set at Haddon Hall in Derbyshire. I saw them filming this weekend!
