Mr DeMartino is not funny and doesn't add anything to the show.
Agreed?
His character seems out of place and I don't think I ever enjoyed his performance on the screen.

Mr DeMartino is in a way not meant to be funny. He is representing at the time an over stressed over worked teacher who doesn't get paid enough. Dealing with students who seem to be not interested in his lessons and yes he does reply to at least Kevin or Brittany in a sarcastic manner.
I think he is an interesting character as he is a Vietnam vet and he sometimes has flashbacks. He obviously doesn't have much money as seen in a few episodes. He is not allowed by the principal to eat any food provided at functions as he took any left overs home with him as he said he couldn't afford to eat.
Daria doesn't have to always be funny, it has many relatable themes.
Nope I can't agree.
Can't agree, I laugh at him every time his eye bulges out. Plus that time in "Is It Fall Yet?" Where he screams "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! PEANUT BUTTER!" I always died laughing at that part .
shareBoth fit in their ways.Characters like that do exist in society. I do find Mr.DeMartino funny but also sad. He doesn't make enough, students are indifferent .He can't hide his frustration.
shareI agree with some of the earlier sentiments. These teachers weren't necessarily meant be funny but instead ironic representations of the most obvious/exaggerated teacher personalities that color high school life. Mr. O'Neill wasn't funny either. I liked Mr. DeMartino I at least found him believable. Ms. Barch was funny but there were times the man-hating got a bit old.
shareare you kidding? he's downright hilarious. in a morbid, cringeworthy sort of way
shareHis interactions with Brittany and Kevin talking to them like they were like 6 years old were some of the best in the entire run of the show.
