James Coburn - Excellent
I thought his performance was excellent, and humourous at times. I'm glad he won an Oscar for it because he certainly deserved it!

I agree with you. He may have been playing a very stereotypical part as the alcoholic, abusive father, but he put his own sense of humor and even pity to his portrayal of Nick Nolte's father. Just because he is old doesn't mean he didn't Deserve the Oscar.

Coburn was extraordinary in this film.
