The "other side"

So to my understanding the people stuck in this "hellish dimension" are being controlled by an unseen entity to do horrible, unspeakable things to each other.

And since this is taking place in an alternate reality. Our own laws of reality don't necessarily apply here. Which explains why the crew is capable of endlessly torturing each other in the most horrible ways imaginable and not die.

But my question is this. Why is this entity doing this? What's the purpose? Maybe it's best not to know.

Is it an ‘entity’? I though it was just the nature of the whole ‘dimension’ of hell - a place of ‘pure chaos, pure evil’ that drove them insane.

I got the same feeling, that going there made people change. Not some entity controlling them.

Well, according to Dr Weir. The concept of good and evil doesn't exist in this dimension (hell is just a word). So maybe you're onto something when you say that this is just the way it is.

Spoilers from Warhammer:

As ye probably already know. This movie's "other dimension" has been compared to that one hellish dimension from the Warhammer franchise. When the demons began invading earth, killing everyone in their wake. I immediately wanted to come up with an explanation as to the "why" of this. I asked my best friend if these unholy entities were sent as punishment for our sinful transgressions. He simply said that I was reading too much into it. "They just do what they do". No need to come up with a deeper explanation than that. Guess there's no point in attempting to rationalize Satan's motivation 😁
