I am dissatisfied with the big reveal. This film doesn't work in my opinion for a variety of reasons, one of them being that the story is as far-fetched as it comes and not believable, even if I have to shut down my brain for 2 hours. It's one of those love it or hate it movies, and I came to hate it.

It was still fresh and twist ending were still not a cliche (Shyamalan ruined the whole segment).
Now I cannot watch it.
I agree with everything you wrote.
Plus I don't like the gloomy atmosphere. The movie is a downer.
And the whole concept is juvenile and sketchy rather than clever.
i recently watched this again (criterion collection) and agree the film is sketchy at best.
also the ending with the hooker Claire was downright stupid considering the DARK atmosphere of the entire film
