Do they not explain how the wish magically came true?

How did the boy manage to get magical mysterious candles where wishes come true? Kinda strange how they don't explain that. Lol

No they don't. You just have to accept it/go with it.

My take on it is that 'child's innocence' somehow fused with 'a magical day' (birthday) to make the Universe listen and grant a wish.

But think about if the kid had KNOWN that was gonna happen - would he still have wasted his wish on THAT, or... (zillion of better or more interesting things)?
