Why do they edit this part on TV?

ABC Family edits the truck driver who says, "What's your problem SCHMUCK?" to "What's your problem BUDDY?" How come? Has "schmuck" become rather more insensitive than it used to? I thought it meant like "nerd."

reply

You can't say Schmuck in a truck. It's like saying bomb on an airplane.

I'm kidding...I don't really know.

If you're not taking any steps forward, you're not moving at all.

reply

Haha maybe so it was less tasteless for tv edits?

reply

Maybe some people misheard it as the f-word so they altered it. In Britain we don't say schmuck so it's likely many people wouldn't know what it meant and would assume it was the swear word

reply

@Mhjm6 According to Wiki:
...its original meaning in Yiddish is penis.

So for ABC Family it could be a cock thing, so to speak.

reply

This.

Having grown up in a Jewish household, it always catches me off guard when people use this word lightly. Of course as an adult I realize not many people know what they're actually saying, but anyone who does would definitely not think it was appropriate for ABC Family.

Well why are they editing out "Steaming Pile" (of cow dung, in the roast scene) and "Off" (when referencing you couldn't get a porn star off). Like really? A steaming pile of cow dung is more offensive than cow dung? But they allow porn star, slut and sex? Also including the audio sex tape...
