Is the message that you should never lie?


If it is, I completely disagree with it. There are many situations where you absolutely should lie. For example, if someone asked you if you think they look good, you absolutely should say yes, even if you don't. Saying no would do lots of harm, and absolutely no good.

This discussion was in the film when he tries to explain it to his kid, "grownups sometimes lie". The moral lesson of the film is that you should be honest in your profession and with those around you. It's not saying you can never tell a small unharmful lie, but you should refrain from lying to further advance your career or take advantage of your loved ones. Telling the truth and being honest is what someone should strive for.
