rated 6.6 out of 10? Really?

Personally, I gave it a '9.' To each his own of course but I think 6.6 is too low of an average score for this marvelous film.

I gave it more of a 7. I certainly isn't a 9. That's being more than a little generous. A lot of the acting by the peripheral characters is pretty atrocious man. I think we get excited by a movie like this and give it maybe a little more love than it deserves becuz it's pretty much one of a kind, or at least the best of it's kind. That being a contemporary non-stereotypical movie about young middle class black people living their lives like normal people. They aren't in the "hood," they aren't gangsters, they don't sell drugs, they aren't athletes, they aren't rappers, they're aren't clowin all ignorant like, and there aren't any damn ACTUAL rappers in the movie. Just NORMAL. We need more movies like this. No more coon flicks. Tyler Perry I'm talking to you!

I thought the acting by the supporting cast was very good.

~"Yeah, but so what? Everybody's weird."

I agree. 6.6 is way too low. A rating of 9 is on point, if not a 10 myself. I love this movie for a million different reasons. Perfect mixture of poetry and jazz and contemporary art and love and music and i could go on and on. But 6.6 /10 is def too low.

Why aren’t black filmmakers making more films like this? It’s seems we’re going in reverse and now it’s back to Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis playing sassy black maids and Tyler Perry making the entire black race look foolish. Even Jordan Peele and Kevin Hart aren’t helping. It’s too bad.

1997 also saw another Nia Long film- Soul Food - release later in 1997. It also depicted middle class black people dealing ordinary drama and it was wonderful. Especially the soundtrack and the acting by Long, Vivica A Fox and Vanessa Williams.

I would love to see more films like Love Jones, but is there enough of a market or demand for movies like this? I suspect if Love Jones came out today, it wouldn't do well at the box office and that is why we don't see many films like it anymore.

Yes, it is underrated. I rated Love Jones an 8/10.
