was the dragonfly an alien?

what's up with the dragonfly in the intro of the film? the fact that it flies over the moon as a reference to ET, and that it survives going thru a semitruck engine. also seems weird to linger on a random ass bug as the intro for your movie. was there something else to it that im missing? always thought it was meant to be an alien.

I thought it was meant to just tie into the later scene where Tommy Lee Jones talks about how bad bugs are. Personally I think they just thought it'd be a neat intro scene. I don't know that they wanted it to be an alien.
