'Popsy' from Nightmares and Dreamscapes

Has anybody else read this short story?

I remember reading somewhere (actually, I belive that is was in the notes section in the back of the book) that King said that the vampire in this story is also the same one from Night Flier. So I was just wondering if any of you have also read it.

(warning, from here on there will be spoilers for those who haven't read it)

I think this is pretty interesting because that would mean that Dwight was a grandfather. In 'Night Flier' he comes off as a monster who is doomed to be alone, but in 'Popsy' we see him taking his grandchild (thus indicating that he does have family and is not really alone, nor is he always flying around and killing people) to the store to buy the little boy some toys. I don't know why, but knowing that Dwight and this vampire are the same makes me smile whenever I read 'Popsy'.

Also the story brings up some very good questions about the vampires. Mainly about their family lives, and also, about how they come to be. Are they made, or are they born like how humans are? Dwight's grandson is a sign that they are, or can be, born. But does that mean that Dwight was also born a vampire, or was he changed into one?

I know that I'm most likely looking to deeply into this, but I love the character of Dwight and I find that 'Popsy' sheds a little more light onto the guy.

Anybody else wish to share their thoughts?

I have read the story yes.....I actually bought that compilation because I love the Night Flier that much. Never knew that there was a connection between Night Flier and the vampire from Popsy. I should read it again....maybe I can see some similarities.

The vampire does get a small description given by the kidnapper.

I did find it interesting that the 2 stories appeared back to back in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. I was kinda like, wow...2 vampire stories back to back. I wondered if they had to do with each other. But honestly I felt they were two entirely different vampires. You're right, why does Renfield use a plane to travel in The Night Flier? And also, if you remember in that story he sleeps in the belly of the plane with dirt and bugs. Which made me assume he was kinda like an "old vampire" that slept during the day. In Popsy, the vampire was taking his grandkid to the mall for some Ninja Turtles during the day. But whatever...yeah, I figured they could be similar if not the same vampire. Kinda felt like the "victim" in Popsy got what was coming to him though.
