What would be cool if and A&E or even AMC or even SYFY. made a mini series out of the first 2 novels. 8 hours in time, which is maybe 6 hours of show. the first 2 would be the Relic and the last 2 parts would be Reliquary. I have to rethink all the casting. But I reread the books last year and would love to see a true making of the books. I think Steven Yeun from Walking Dead could be Greg Lee. I really liked Tom Sizemore as Vincent, but he would need to be younger now so maybe we can make a few of the books. Paul Bettany or Matthew Goode would be great Pendergasts. anyways that is my start. would love to receive more casting suggestions. thanks terry
Try to read them if you have an interest in books with a faintly supernatural overtone: they, and the two (or perhaps three) following Pendergast books are really terrific reads. I absolutely loved them.
I used the word "technically", as in someone could make an argument for it. I also used a smiley face to indicate I was joking.
And, again, technically (there's that word again!), it's not The Relic series, but The Pendergast Series, so, yes, Mount Dragon does have something to do with the series as Mime appears in a later book (Cabinet of Curiosities, I think). In fact, the only odd-ball is Riptide, which features no one from any of the other books (unless you count the abandoned novel which Preston and Child published on their site and let fans write an ending--where the winning entry featured Pendergast).

I like Robert Blanche as D'Agosta (he is middle-aged, right?) and Michael Fassbender for Pendergast. Margo and Hayward would be hard casts, need to think on that for a while. :) Yeun would be a good Lee. Who would be Mephisto? Hmmmm.
Lots of good questions. I really like Paul Bettany as Pendergrast. and to play Dr Frock you need someone in their 40's made up to look much older. Really wish this would happen.
Been thinking about your thoughtful posts. Perhaps the authors are holding back on the character Pendergast until they find the right way to bring him to life on the screen. He is after all wonderfully complex and could hit an intelligence button in the loyal readers of his series. I've begun a reread of all of the novels. I didn't even realize that the character Constance Green was first introduced in Cabinet of Curiousities until I got to the part where Pendergast did the Chongg Ran and went back to see her as a child in front of the sweatshop. They spoke. One line I believe. What rich detailed books. I can only hope they come out with them as movies in my lifetime. There should be an IMDB board for us...the readers of books!
I wouldnt mind a mini series. I wanted a new Relic movie cuz the movie that exists is nothing like the book. But with a mini series they could probably fit in most parts of the book. That would be great. Btw, Gregs name is Gregory Kawakita. Cant wait to read Reliquary!!
Given how often big-screen (and sometimes "small") adaptations of terrific books fail, often due to casting, I can understand the reticence to making a Pendergast film.
That said, I would love to see Aloysius brought to life. However, for a character of such magnitude and uniqueness, it will be difficult to please all of the people all of the time...or even half of the people half of the time. Witness the uproar over Ben Affleck's Batman - and he spends most of the movie covered up in a suit!
Look how badly they screwed up Clive Cussler's Sahara by casting Matthew McConaughey and Steve Zahn! Not only did they not, in any way, resemble beloved, vividly described, characters that have appeared in 24(!) books, the filmmakers got the tone all wrong. Cussler was not happy, and will perhaps retreat from movies again (Few remember...and fewer enjoyed...Raise the Titanic in the 80s!!) forever!
So...given a choice between a poorly-realized and loathed Pendergast film, and continuing on with only the version of Aloysius that resides in my head...I'll have to choose my imagination - and Preston and Child's tantalising prose.
BUT...as long as we're playing...
Paul Bettany seems to be many people's choice to play Pendergast. What about Neal McDonough? Probably about the right age...intense actor.
Oooh oooh ooohh.....Gustaf Skarsgard from "Vikings". His Floki is the best character on the show, a bit brooding, intense, and maybe a little bit crazy.
Or since I'm on a Vikings kick, why not the lead, Travis Fimmel? He might be a bit too brawny and bad-ass for our Aloysius; I usually picture Pendergast a bit on the slight side - his various skills allow him to get the most out of a smaller body. But Fimmel is intense as well and brooding as well.
Although Fimmel and Skarsgard may both be a bit young...
On February 1, 2016, authors Preston and Child confirmed that producer Gale Anne Hurd would be heading a television adaptation of the novels Relic and Cabinet of Curiosities. The adaptation, simply titled Pendergast, will air on Spike TV. The first season will focus on "Pendergast investigating a present-day crime mimicking a century-old mystery — that links to his own family's dark past."[1]"
Don't know what truth there is to this, but it sounds pretty exciting. Gale Anne Hurd served as Producer on the Walking Dead and many big movies in the past.
