In all other scenes the beast hurriedly ate his food like a kid who needs to eat lunch before he can go outside and play.
Once he got to sweet Dr. Margo he paused and licked her face and pretty much did everything to give her ample time to devise a plan to get away.

Well, he did know Margo, so I guess he had to pause and relish her for a moment. Remember, he was human and he may have had a crush on her or something, LOL! Also, we don't see him kill the old Professor in the wheelchair, so he may have paused and remembered him as well before killing him. Just speculation.
