This should be remade

This movie, which is utter garbage, should be remade to kick off a Pendergast film franchise. Then, maybe, we could get a film that's actually scary AND intelligent with some topnotch actors.

My wishlist for a new Relic cast:

Pendergast: Paul Bettany
D'Agosta: Liev Schreiber or, if cast older perhaps Dennis Franz
Margo Green: Nicole Kidman or Rachael Weisz
Smithback: Zachary Levi, Joshua Jackson or Dallas Roberts
Dr. Frock: John Noble
Cuthbert: John Hannah
Coffey: William Atherton or JR Bourne

I seriously hope that films of the Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child books featuring Pendergast get made. If they can continue to make Alex Cross movies why not these?

I would really like to see these remade. I just finished 'Two Graves' and really love the Pendergast series.

As for D'Agosta - I don't know why - but I always picture him almost exactly like 'David Zayas' - Sgt. Batista from Dexter. And I think Paul Bettany would be a great Pendergast.

david zayas I freaking love that guy would be a good d'agosta. great suggestion !!!!!

Hell dexter (michael c hall) would be a cool diogenes

My first choice for Pendergast has always been Jeremy Irons, but I do agree that Paul Bettany would be excellent as well! My D'Agosta has always, always been Jon Polito, while I see Bill Pullman as an excellent Smitchback. As far as Margo and Dr. Frock I actually liked the actors used in this film.

Oh and don't mind my typo...I obviosly meant Smithback, not Smitchback!

Hehe disagree on utter garbage, after all it made me seek out the book and now its my favorite novel :)

So there must be something that's fun about it. But yes, it should be remade properly and I think it should be longer than 2 hours. I just love movies that take their sweet time building things.

the books are not automatically good movies.

what makes the books great is the inner dialogue and thoughts of the characters.

thats quite difficult to put on film.

what makes the books cheesy and generic are the somewhat silly explanations for horror-film type things happening, the ridiculous 'hes dead, oh no hes not, oh yes he is, oh no hes not' scenes which are numerous even in the highest quality of the series. "and a hand came up over the ledge, the hero hadnt really fallen".

is this a high concept intellectual thriller, or a scooby doo episode? you get confused sometimes when reading the books.

not that it cant work, but it's kind of risky, compared to something straigtforward like the lord of the rings or harry potter.

I don't think the movie was garbage, but I do agree that it should be remade.

reply

Agreed. The adaptation didn't reach the level of the book at all. They just had to leave out so much.

And I think Pendergast would make an excellent tv-series on cable. HBO? Netflix? Anybody?

Gotta say I love the remake idea and actually almost all the proposed casting decisions.

Bettany is an excellent choice for Pendergast. bettany could pull off the southern accent

David zayas for d'agosta, however I always pictured him similar to James gandolfini while reading the books

Tom Hiddleston as Diogenes (for the sequel).

For Margo I'd go with Rose Byrne. although thats a tough one to call

James Rebhorn for smithback. That one I'm sure of

C.S. Lee for Greg Lee

Interesting.

He's nothing next to Bart Taylor.
