Anyone else reminded of Quake2/Quake4 ... ?

This alien "lifeform" is pretty similar to the Strogg in Quake2 and Quake4 - in the way that they use remains of their defeated enemies to rebuild the next "generation" of themselves. Also Star Trek's "Borgs" come to mind.

I always liked this concept, and thought this movie was pretty good.. even though the rest of it was kind of cliché from beginning to end.

Yeah i know what you mean, some of the cyborg robot monster things looked a bit like the Strogg from Quake 2, not played 4 yet though.

It didn't remind me of the Quake games, however, it did remind me of the PC game 'System Shock'. In that game, the AI controlling a space station orbiting the earth goes haywire and decides to take over the crew, turning them into violent cyborgs - just like in the movie. The AI wants to infect Earth itself with some kind of virus or mutagen (I don't remember which) which will end up wiping out the rest of mankind so its up to the player to stop this happening against a foe determined to thwart every effort. In the movie, the heroes have to stop the ship sending it's virus to other ships and the mainland also to stop the same kind of thing happening. I just watched the movie and thought, 'This is a bit like System Shock set on a boat, albeit crap'.
