I LOVE this movie

I love it so much I will quote lines from it even if they're out of context. I did that Saturday in the car and my mom looked at me funny (What do you mean unable to comply?)

Yeah, I find myself doing that sometimes too. The movies a little corney, but, I think it's awesome!

reply

yeah besides you gotta love the grunge look on Joe, it's hard to believe he was 15 in this movie, he looks his age now not like he's 3 or 4 years younger

I really loved it also. It was really funny!! Especially the part where he is trying to find the word to tell Cy that he has to pee. He reminds me of a kangaroo there. Same with when they are at Ms. Halloway's house and she says, "You know, I can't do this if you don't stand still." and Joe says back inbetween clentched teeth, "I'm trying!!" and then when he comes out of the bathroom, he says, "That was special." It is super hilarious!! And Joe is SOOO cute!!

I wouldn't go so far to know the lines (only seen it 1.5 times). Simon Birch and The Cure I know though. Joseph Mazzello once again does great in this.

I thought it was shocking how 5 years after jurassic park, such poor effects are still on display. Plus. why was it that when he put the suit on, he only just fit in, but when it showed you his inside the head view, he seemed to have loadfs of space? Rubbish.

Well, this film has absolutely no relation to Jurassic Park, so I wouldn't bother comparing it from a technical standpoint. This is an independent movie - they were on a tight budget and this is what they produced. Nothing amazing, nothing bad either. I've seen a lot worse (see Sleepstalker). I loved the transition from space to earth (the part with the marbles on the floor). I thought that was done quite impressive.

So, please don't compare high-budget Hollywood movies to independent movies.

I think you'll find that they share quite a big relation- the main kid is in both films. Fair enough they had obviously differing budgets, but if you can't afford for the effects to look even half decent then I really don't think you should bother. Indy movies are usually character based or low budget horrors, something that can work without a budget. Any sci-fi film about a super suit should stand up to criticism of its effects I'm afraid, it's obviously not going to be reviewed on its oscar winning performances is it? So if I want to compare it to a special effects movie from five years before that stars the same actor, then I think I will if that's ok with you.

reply

Hmm. Well, the whole idea revolved around the trelkins and the cyborg from another planet. I think it made an ok use of effects (particularly the transition between the planets to the marbles in the first few minutes). So, really, this film did need effects at a budget. I believe Computer Cafe were the ones responsible for most effects.

I think kids and the family audiences are going to love it. If you're looking for an epic movie like 300, Jurassic Park, King Kong (2005) then go watch those. Hey, even Ebert liked it and gave it thumbs up. I'd go watch the show on atthemoviestv.com if you want to further see.

So many years later, stumbled on this movie for the first time since I was very young. Expected it to be corny, and it was indeed very corny but I still loved every moment! Really funny, love the lines in this movie.
