16 is over the age of consent in the UK, don't know about elsewhere. Realistically however 16 year old girls who still have their virginity is an increasing rarity (at least in the west).

This post is not directed to the OP specifically, but to all others who replied to this thread with ignorant statements and biased views.

Keiko goes to college. She does not go to high school.

1. Her father says she has to be picked up at college.
2. To my knowledge, the Japanese people refer to latter day educational communities as universities, not colleges - although I may be wrong about that as I am basing that off of what several 2nd and 3rd generation Japanese Americans have told me they refer to it as.
3. The legal age of consent varies depending on your country's laws. Get off your moral high horse and stop preaching your religious/societal/cultural views on others.
4. The actress was born in 1974 which puts her in her mid-20's.
5. As it so happens, the orignal script for this movie called for Keiko being in high school. However, it was changed by the request of the production studio due to societal concerns about an adult and a teenage high schooler.
6. Many colleges in the US and across the world do require or at the very least endorse uniforms.
7. Keiko's school girl uniform is a homage to Anime. That is in the IMDB Trivia for the movie as well.
8. Even if Keiko was in high school it really shouldn't matter. Based on her apparent age and academic knowledge it is *likely* to assume she is a senior.
9. Although the average American High School student is 17, there are still many others who are 18 - and I am not referring to students who were held back a year. Example; if you are born in say November but enrollment period is August-September (in many states) then you would have to wait until your 5th birthday before you can enroll. You would have been 4 in September, so you wouldn't be allowed to enroll until either November when you turn 5 or the following year - again, depending on state. This happened to both Your's Truly and my own son.
10. As another poster pointed out, you would be hard pressed to find a 16 year old virgin girl, but I am not really sure it should matter. Are the other posters upset because they mistakenly thought she was under the legal age of consent in the US or because a twenty-something deflowered her?
