The video store employee

The one thing I remember about this movie is the video store employee who calls Mark Wahlberg at home and talks a lot of smack to him.

I used to work at a video store and this was DEAD ON true about employees there. I've seen it plenty, and it was a funny little dig by the screenwriter/filmmaker, who I read once was also a video store employee at one time.

I guess some things never change.

If they remade this movie, they'd have to replace the video clerk tough guy wanna-be with posters from IMDB's message boards instead. :)

I think that kid is one of my favorite parts of the movie - he definitely reminds me of those who worked at Suncoast Video and Strawberries...

It's funny. For some reason, people who worked at video stores had a very high opinion of themselves, from my experience, at least (and apparently the screenwriter's as well). I assume it was because they were in charge of a product that everyone wanted (in the small town I grew up in, the video store I worked at was a known hangout and very appreciated place), so they had this holier-than-thou attitude about them.

This scene really made me chuckle as a result.

I was cool and courteous when I worked at Hollywood video years ago

You can't even do that with IMDB anymore. Who would've thought that both video rental stores and IMDB boards would go extinct?
