I must be getting old...

if Hollywood thinks this film is old enough to be needing a reboot. This is one of those films that is so much fun to watch and rewatch. I don't think the film has aged badly to warrant a reboot. I think the cast did a fine job in this film(disregard the sequels). If anything needs a reboot then it would be the 2nd and 3rd films. Any people out there who actually think we need a reboot of the whole franchise?

-'Human intelligence' is an oxymoron-

I'd rather they spent the money and spruced up the VFX in this film for a special edition.

I'd buy it.

I love this film! It is so much fun and really the script is very tight, witty, and intelligent! That's a very rare going to pull off. It reminds me of Back to the Future in how entertaining and smart a film can be, and almost perfect in almost every aspect.

I agree it will be tough to beat and having a remake come out so soon may blow up in their faces as it's still in memory and would be compared.

Tom Cruise usually makes smart choices in films so we will see. But I just can't imagine it beating this film. The 1920s setting, the attention to detail like Weisz Pickford look and character, Fraser's ott hero right out of a 20s/30s playbook, the enjoyable side characters like Beni and Jonathan, and what about the fantastic ancient Egypt intro with Anksunamun making that jaw dropping entrance in nothing but gold paint?

It was authentic and every detail was touched upon. I'm wondering myself if cruise will be a good leading man. Fraiser was born to play the part. Arnold Vosloo really was menacing as Imhotep and felt like an ancient priest reemerging after a long sleep. The beginning scene will be hard to top as we find out the story of how he was emtombed. It was simple, full of energy and made scrabes horrying creatures that could eat you alive.

I think the remake will really need a fresh hook and come up with a bold scene to beat it.

On another thread, people were liking this film to White House Down fun romp but that's not what makes this film great and a classic. Sure, it's fun, silly, and entertaining but it is smart. Almost every aspect of this film was perfect, and the film was clearly well researched and richly detailed, people underestimate how tight this film was made. I can only compare it to BTTF.
