The OT saber fights were better.

So there. Give me a reason why the new ones are superior.

Cuz flippy floppy lava lava

They look prettier, but that's about all.

That said, I rather enjoyed Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon going at it with Darth Maul and the "Duel of the Fates" score was excellent. He was sort of a wasted villain though, since he vanished rather quickly. And of course, he already proved to Obi-Wan why "high ground" was irrelevant.

Also one thing to note, Darth Vader is such a significantly more powerful character than Luke in Empire, there's no real reason for him to flip around and do acrobatics and such. He's essentially just toying with Luke.

They got it right in Jedi though, where eventually Luke is just so enraged where he just starts batting at Vader again and again, physically overpowering him. (Impressive too, since Vader was mostly machine!)

Perhaps that's what made Maul the inferior and gave Obi-Wan the wisdom to recognize such a position.

"Have to say, Jimmy - you turned into a real impressive fighter. If I was ol' Mengsk, I'd be runnin' scared from you, too."
"You really mean that, Tychus?"
"Nah. I was just kiddin'."

Huh? If Darth Maul had the high ground, and Obi-Wan defeated him still... why would Obi-Wan declare victory over Anakin years later when he does have the high ground?

reply

Element of surprise. Obi-Wan was expecting an attack from Anakin and was therefore prepared for it. He warned him, and still Anakin attacked because his anger and rage outweighed basic self preservation at that point. Darth Maul considered the fight with Obi-Wan over. It was only a matter of time until he fell.

And Darth Maul wasn't? He knew it wasn't over, hence why he was toying with Obi-Wan clinging for his life.

It was only a matter of time until he fell.

If you saw the Original Trilogy first, that would be rather obvious.

reply

The Anakin and Obi Wan fight was so disappointing. The Cgi was so distracting, Anakns silly lines and it looked like dancing more then fighting to the death.

reply

They were choreographed closer to swordfights in asian cinema and look more skillful.

reply

Everything in the OT was better.

reply

Darth Maul. There's your reason. Ray Park provided some of the best skills ever to grace the big screen. Better than any other Star Wars, kill bill, michone, or even any Klingon batleth crap you could scrape up.

reply

The prequel lightsaber fights were much better in general, except for the final fight in RotS. That one was interesting to watch, but got way too cheesy. Its like they hired a five year old kid to plan out the whole scene. Doing quadruple backflips onto 2 foot wide platforms floating in the air over lava?
