i don’t blame steven spielberg for praising this movie when he saw it before major audience
i could see why he liked it and also why he had to show enthusiasm for his friend george. but i think he legit liked the film and for good reasons.

Spielberg has no respect for the viewers nor for cinema.
He thinks it's all silly entertainment for dumb masses, so a sub par Star Wars like this one, or a shitfest Indiana Jones like the last one , are good in his opinion.
I think if TPM was the first Star Wars film to come out it would have been much more welcomed by the masses than it was.
It still wouldn't have rivaled ANH as far as film quality, but we all would have viewed it more favorably I think.
The fans, way back when, forgot The Phantom Menace was meant for children.
