Dr. Larch

It really struck me after my third viewing of the film the complexity of the Michael Caine's character. Here is a man who performs abortions for a living but also loves and cares for kids many of whom would have been prime candidates for abortion if their mothers had chose so. And I won't even go into his romantic involvement with seemingly two women and his addiction to ether.
I just wanted to make a broader point about the complexity of his character being more representative of human beings than the easily tossed around terms of liberal and conservative which are far too overused and do a disservice by painting people with such a large brush that all the similarites we have in common are overshadowed by our smaller differences.
