I have watched this movie a few times and now I am more than convinced that Delroy Lindo should have got the oscar, not Michael Caine, who gave a great performance, but Lindo displayed a larger palette of his talent than Caine, albeit the opening narrator.

I agree. Though I like Michael Caine, his role was not one of his best I've seen. However, I think that this was one of Delroys best performances. The last 30 minutes of the movie just sealed it for me. To be honest, the majority of the movie was boring until his character came in. He brought the movie to life, with joy, laughter, anquish, sadness, disgust, you name it. He most definitely should have received the Best Support nod instead of Michael Caine. The Academy definitely missed its mark with that decision.

Lindo was outstanding, unfortunately he's just one of those actors that never gets praise when in reality he often deserves more than the lead actors.

In a year where Duncan in Green Mile, Law in Ripley, Cruise in Magnolia, and Osmet in Sixth Sense all put forth powerful performances and were up for the award, this dreck shouldn't have even been nominated.

Maguire growing up throughout film, blah blah, hookerish woman, blah blah....comes to realize he may not be the man who raised him but he has his heart. Instead of thinking how well Tobey played the sheltered kid I was thinking how great of a job Larch did raising Homer.
It takes alot for me to disappear into fantasyland during a movie.
Delroy was great and he deserved/s recognition for his great part. It's just Caine's influence was on the screen, in the words and even between the lines.
Just kidding about the hookerish woman remark, Theron is gorgeous and was great in this role as well.
