Melony?

I've nearly finished the book and am looking forward to seeing the film once I have. The cast list looks good but I can't see anyone playing Melony, is she cut out of the film?? This seems strange as they have someone credited as playing Mary-Agnes and she seems to only have a part to play as Melony's 'friend'...unless something happens towards the end of the book to bring her into her own...anyway I don't want to know any spoilers and really my only question is Melony in the film?

No, she's not in the movie. As I mentioned in another thread (see 'another ruined book') John Irving said in an interview that keeping Melony would have made the movie way too long. Her character and what she goes through is so complex and full of detail, don't you think? I understand why he (John Irving) had to edit her out of his screenplay. It's a shame. Melony is so interesting - evil, yet obsessed with Homer.

Anyway, I hope this helps!!

Just watched the film and I agree with everything you said. I can see the reason for her not being there but it was a shame as she was such a great character. Some of her attributes were put into the character of Mary-Agnes which was nice to see. Overall however, as with most movie adaptations of great books, I was left feeling like there could have been so much more to it.
