I did a marathon with Shakespeare In Love

Shakespeare In Love is a great and charming romantic comedy but no way in hell did it deserve the Oscar over Saving Private Ryan.

Actually a romantic comedy is precisely what it is not. If you think it is, no wonder you don't get what is great about it,

After the Normandy Invasion Saving Private Ryan goes downhill. Whereas Shakespeare in Love had a brilliant clever script to the very end.

There is no way of saying SPR is the better film and sounding clever.

Quite agree, although I watched the first third again the other day and found the romantic sub-plot much more annoying than before; I've given up on the last two thirds.
