What should've had this movie's Best Pic nomination

Been looking back at '90s-era Oscars - lots of very bad choices made (but hey, it's the Academy, what do you expect?). Nothing against this movie - it's fine for a sappy chick flick - but here's a few examples of far more deserving Best Picture nominations - http://www.cinemalowdown.com/2013/06/1998-oscars-revisited-what-should ve-won.html

Everyone says Saving Private Ryan should have won, however that was much more over melodramatic mush than this. Malick's Thin Red Line was a much better war film than Ryan, however as with all Malick films it's so far above the Acadamy's heads it could never win. Having finally brought myself to watch this I think it was, given the opposition, a worthy winner.

As far as I'm concerned, "The Truman Show" was the best film of the year. I would have given SIL best screenplay, as well as the acting awards for Paltrow and Dench.
