Bridget Fonda was so annoying in this crappy film

I just wanted to punch her *beep* face in. I hate her.

Couldn't agree more. Worse character in any film i have ever seen.
*Spoilers*

Why couldn't she just die instead of surviving and pissing me off to the bitter end? What was with her and Bill Pullman getting it together at the end? I felt no connection between the two except his immense hatred for the whiny bitch. No wonder her boss dumped her.

I don't remember any character in this movie called "Bridget Fonda"? There was however a character named "Kelly Scott" who was PLAYED by Bridget Fonda!

OK, enough of my sarcasm! :-)
But I think it is important to remember that the actors are playing according to how the character is described in the script and how they are directed. They are not themselves - it's fiction, not documentary.

PS: yes, I found Kelly annoying like h*ll as well!

reply

Well, we are definitely MEANT to find Kelly a real pain in the a**, so I'd say Bridget did well. (Try to distinguish between the actor and the character, OK?).

Kelly nearly got tolerable, but then she went back to her old annoying self ... "are the glasses clean"?

reply

That's the point - all these characters are neurotic, self-absorbed in their own way. And Kelly Scott was OCD and hyper-sensitive to germs, cleanliness, bugs. Her "being annoying all the way through" was simply consistency in character. Even at the end, when she's falling in love, she can't help but make sure the glasses are clean. Because it's who she is. And I thought her character was hysterical!
Especially the scenes where she belts Keough on the shoulder: "Don't throw heads at me! (To Jack) And stop calling me ma'am!" and when they pull her out of the water and ask if she's alright: "I think...My hair." LOL! LOL! I thought Bridget Fonda did a great job!

reply

I think too many people don't get the humor that she contributed to the movie. If this was a real person in real life, then she would have been annoying. But, watching the movie, I think she's entertaining and Bridget Fonda did a fine job.

It's better than everyone being cardboard stereotypes with no personality.

Chitty's comment is so direct and to the point. LOL

I thought she was hilarious.
My kind of humour this film.

OMG...I could not agree more. Her character was just so hateable. I could not see how in the world Bill Pullman's character found her even remotely attractive. I don't know if it was the lines or if she just doesn't have the likeability or comic talent to pull them off...but I agree that it was one of the most annoying portrayals EVER.

It just aired on HBO, and I had forgotten how hideous she was. The whining. The passive aggressive behavior, the absolute rudeness and really awful one-liners. Then when she slaps the deputy *twice!*, my hand started twitching b/c I was just wishing he would belt her just one time. Yes, I've seen the movie before and know it's not feasible to magically change that scene, but she was such a B that I was still wishing for it. Ruined the movie for me, not that it was stellar or anything to begin with. What's funny is that the main reason I even passably liked it was b/c of another character in the film. Oliver Platt's character. He was hilarious! The banter between him and the sheriff was priceless. Now that's what I call comedic talent.

Her character makes you want to not watch this movie. Hector was annoying, but funny. My favorite character was the sheriff. But Kelly did get her comeuppance, she had heads thrown at her, knocked out of boats, fell off the truck, so it balanced out in the end.

I think you missed the point of her character. She's supposed to be a spoiled brat city-girl who hates camping and annoys everyone with her complaining at first. Over the course of the film she adjusts, gets off her high-horse, connects with the others, actually becomes helpful (see patching Pullman's arm) and then braves the danger and escapes the Croc underwater at the end, where as before she was being helplessly rescued getting knocked out of the boat twice. See the contrast between slapping the Sheriff and then kissing his cheek at the end? That's called a character arc.

I loved all the characters. It was a good mix of personalities.

I voted for Frenchie and Dia like a sex donkey on Xanax.

I thought she was great. She called her boss a *beep* s**t. One of my favorite lines in the movie. When people despise a character it usually means they fulfilled their role wonderfully.

"Apes don't read philosophy." "Yes they do, Otto. They just don't understand it."

Your comment might be a decade old, but I cannot AGREE ENOUGH WITH YOU!
I just watched this movie for the first time today and I could only tolerate it for about an hour, I refused to watch the rest, her character was completely insufferable and ruined the movie for me. This is coming from a big Bill Pullman fan, but not even poor Bill could save this one from her annoying roll.
