I liked it, too. Thought it was GREAT!! It's one of Arnold's best performances...the best I'd say.

Yeah, it's really not bad a doomsday flick.

I really liked the creature effects by stand wintson particularly.

I really enjoyed it too. I hate following the crowd on the IMDb boards, everybody has their own opinion on movies. Don't really think it was Arnie's best performance, really liked Gabriel Byrne as Satan and Robin Tunney though.

Just re-watched it, but for the first time in HD. Always thought it was good, but forgot just how good a film it was! I thought Arnie was great in it, actually. One of his best later films. I think one reason a lot of people dislike it, is because it's kind of 'trendy' and 'cool' to despise religion/christianity/optimistic spirituality these days. I'm not religious myself, but I think it's a great good vs evil story.

^^This. It's considered cool to hate films like this, which is why most thriller concerning religion have low ratings and don't go higher than a 6.0 or maybe 7.0.

I'm not ashamed to admit I liked it. Sure it was over-produced, but still fun and entertaining. And it was a terrific change of pace for Arnie; how often do we see him as a suicidal alcoholic?

I like it, too. I like apocalyptic types of films, any way. Gabriel Byrne was great in this.
