Reboot confirmed!!

Ew.com writes that a reboot/reimaginationed Charmed is OFFICIALLY in develoment on CW, but it will be set in the 70s!

I knew and was not expecting that if it would get rebooted it would be connected to or a continuation of Charmed, so I am open to setting it in another time. Why not? But I am very sceptical about CW. Feel that all their shows are catered to and make for teens/teen girls, meaning that the new Charmed might be for a very young audience yuck

Aaand just read that they won't be related. Really hope that one is not true. What initially made Charmed great was because the show was about them being sisters. Them acting more like roomates eventually is the biggest reason why Charmed got bad

reply

Really I saw it's going to be a prequel set in 1978. How that will work is anyone's guess since they lost their powers and memory when Phoebe was born in 1974. They didn't her them back until 1998.

reply

From what I've read, they're not going to be related at all - to each other or the Charmed Ones - outside of an episode that will probably be similar to 'That Seventies Episode' (since that's the year it's supposed to take place), there will be no signs of anyone who had anything to do with the original show.

Just a show about three witches in the 70's who aren't even sisters.

They're just using the name to get attention for this possible show.

I don't think I'm interested. I loved the sisters who happened to be witches. If they were three witches who happen to be friends, I don't think I would've kept watching, but

And just because it's in development does *not* mean it will actually be aired. I'm hoping it won't. I still think it's too early - but if they are going to do it, doing it this way - totally separate from the original one - is probably the best way.

Just not for me.

I know you think this won't make it to air like last time but that's where you're wrong. This will air on CW. CW doesn't have expectations of pulling bigger numbers especially for CBS produced shows. The writers/showrunners behind it are from CW's critically acclaimed Jane The Virgin.
There are 2 kinds of shows on CW. CBS produced ones and WB produced ones.
CBS produced ones are usually the lowest rated shows in the network. They only survive on the network due to politics since the network is co-owned by CBS and WB. They're required to renew CBS produced despite the dreadful ratigs. Charmed is a CBS produced show. Pilot order can come any time now probably next week.

reply

Yeah it says prequel-ish, meaning that its set before Charmed, but apparently has nothing to do with Charmed, so... weird

reply

Just trying to market on the name, nothing else.

It might be very good, but it will die once fans realize it truly has nothing to do with Charmed.

My guess is it will never be aired.

reply

One sure way to make certain a series gets cancelled is to set it in a previous time-immediately increases costs per episode for every ep. as you need locations, costumes, props, vehicles etc for the era.

Not crazy about it taking place in 70's. Honestly I rather just watch a reboot with new actors that takes place in current time. Hope it all works out either way.

reply

Not really since they can recycle Reign's props. Filming in Canada is gonna be way cheaper than say LA/Cali. Reign filmed in Toronto.

reply

I never saw 'Reign' - where did that take place? If it was on the East Coast, it could work.

I saw these at another site:

I think I prefer the fact that they are friends, we don't need the rehashed sister plot again. This prequel will be set in the same world so I suppose there will be demons, whitelighters (please don't do a witch/whitelighter romance), and maybe talk of the famous Warrens, but that's probably about it. Personally, I don't want these characters anywhere near the Warrens, the further away they are the better imo, so as to not mess up their continuity even more.

If the connection is the magic and demons and creatures that are in the book/ that we are semi familiar with or heard about. Okay. If this is the route. I will try it out.

But the show cannot be called Charmed.

And that made me rethink it. Here's my reply:

If it's called "Charmed: The Prequel" or something like that, the way "Star Trek: The Next Generation" is counted as that (or better comparison: "Star Trek: Deep Space Six" and SNG) to make it clear that it's the same universe but totally different characters, then I might give it a try.

What do you think of it thinking of it that way?

Just shared a few thoughts re this on another thread, more or less, but of the mind will not succeed with having them put in anything starting with 19.

Wish I could fig out how could put out a kinda pre set in the 1800s, having it take place over some yrs with larger families both male and female children being born into as is more normal. Repeating self a bit from other thread, but have some born with no power but knowing that a child or more of theirs could be born with active powers. See how it is in a family where some do not have an active power, but can and do figure a way to help. Deal with being hunted and even killed, as hard as that is to think about. Knowing these lives were the Warren line that led to the "talked" about charmed ones, maybe see more added to the coming of the charmed ones.

Hope made sense

you know since there is current fans and new fans to Charmed we should be doing our best to tell them this is a mistake we need the charmed girls back. I mean look at Fuller house and they brought the old going back. We need to do something about it. Tell networks how we feel even tweet and save out characters we love. Why used the "Charmed" title if it has no link to our heroes it makes no sense. Remember that "Knight Rider 2010" we hoped it would link to Knight Rider guess what it was a complete joke there was no KITT no Flag it was just a Terminator like world so look we should do something and save charmed tell the girls we would love them to play Pure Page and Phoebe and Piper. If this show fails this is why we got NetFlex and the DVD's. This is just like how David Hasselhoff felt about "Knight Rider" in 2008 he was so upset about how they were treating it. He thought he could save Knight Rider. Guess what he failed because they chose not to listen to him. So please tell CW we do not want this. Maybe we can do our best to explain what the old cast want.

You are fooling yourself if you think CW will listen to that. First CW is a small network and they would waste that much money to try and get those old actresses. Second the old actresses are way too old for CW's target demo.

reply

there not old i mean look at fuller house unless CBS can bring it back. Or two just leave it alone.

reboot it with them raising their kids..after all Phoebe marries Coop i think it would make it better

reply

No, it wouldn't, because it would still have all of the consistency problems that Charmed was haunted by. Best to start fresh.

But I would've preferred what they wanted before - four sisters who are Charmed, but who are Warrens, not Halliwells, living in a totally different city with different powers, different occupations and different boyfriends.

BUT not for another five-ten years. Reboots work best if there's a generation between the ones who first saw the show and the ones who see the reboot. That's why series from the 80's are being rebooted now and succeeding.

Charmed isn't ready to be rebooted yet, and neither is Sabrina, the other one they've talked about doing.

reply

I didn't think Sabrina was also up for discussion. Sad

reply

Reboots suck worse than remakes

"Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop."

reply

I'd prefer it to be focused on the offspring of the Halliwell sisters than set in the past. I probably won't watch it, maybe the first show only.

reply

This annoys me, because it isn't a "reboot" it has nothing to do with Charmed at all. If it was set in the 70s and follow Patty/Penny, OK that would make sense and be a spinoff right? Then it should be in the 60s, but whatever it's new characters. To me, this isn't a reboot, it's not rebooting the show? IT would include the Halliwell sisters, or bring them all back. But it has nothing to do with them. It's more of a ripoff remake. Like someone below said, they are marketing on the "Charmed" name. That's disappointing to Charmed fans who like and hate this idea, because either way you are going to be disappointed.

I'd watch a spinoff that follows a young Penny, Patty, or even Melinda Warren and show the "beginning" OR a series that follows Wyatt & Chris and their younger sister Melinda and then their cousins could show up, or follow Phoebe's daughters. At least that's what I would do. But no, lets "reboot" it and reinvent it and fuck it up.
