P3 H20. Pretty much saved their asses when Prue got killed off and they had to find a way to bring in Paige.

They did. It was quite convenient to have Sam already there as Pattys lover and whitelighter. I think they could have still introduced the story in season 4 even if P3 H2O didn't happen but it would have been harder to believe and seemed too convenient.
