The series just ran it's course. It was always a light fluffy show and they had played out virtually every possible storyline sometimes a 3 or more times. When Cuoco joined you could see it was one last desperate attempt to stay relevant but it backfired as the character wasn't necessary and just highlighted how the producers thought the main cast were no longer young or sexy enough to keep the viewers interest.
Those issues are all true, but I actually feel it already started to lose part of its charm after the first season. It's like every season they changed their mind about what kind of show it was supposed to be.
