A new thing I just noticed

I like all the subtle connections the movie makes across the different parts of the story. I just caught a new one wile watching this for the zillionth time: When Kelly gives Chuck the watch in the car on the tarmac, she says "My granddaddy used it in the south pacific" (presumably when he was serving in WW2)...a good foreshadowing of where Chuck will soon be "using" it.

I just noticed the title is "Cast Away", not "Castaway" -- there's some deeper meaning there. Tom Hanks isn't just a castaway, he's been cast away by society and his wife. Or maybe he casts away what he doesn't need anymore.

That's wild!

Or maybe the cast went away for 3/4 of the film.

Or maybe it was a nod to a great Billy Mays endorsed product that was hot at the time.

Are you dreading going to the doctor to get your plaster cast removed? Do you hate having to sit around in the waiting room at the Doctor's office? Well have I got just the thing for you: Try Cast Away! Just spray this innovative new product on any plaster or fiberglass cast anywhere on your body and watch it just melt away.
