Lack of 70s Music

Seems like the first season had a lot of great 70s music. It was a nice touch and it really enhanced the mood and experience, like when Dream Weaver played over Eric and Donna’s big moment. I think the writers may have been pulling from their own life experiences during the first season, and the music helped craft the memories they were trying to convey. In the later seasons, it felt more like a formulaic sitcom, and had less nostalgia. What strikes me as odd is that they probably had a much bigger budget as the years went on, and they could have afforded more music. Either way, it’s a wonderful show.

They had it and then yeah it was gone. I assume they did not want to pay royalty rights which they had to do to use the music.

They probably did not have to pay/pay as much to use the generic. Maybe the cast asking for a bigger salary as the show got famous also became an issue at the same time. The show was a hit, but it was still not a blockbuster (no cartoons etc) so they had to cut corners where they could.
