Self Sabotage

This would have been wrapped up in the first battle with the lamps but there was self sabotaging after self sabotaging by the do gooders. Especially galling was Lan Tianyu who could kill his wife but now she was out for revenge as a spirit he sabotaged all attempts to destroy her, leading to a ton more deaths.

The sets are really impressive and ornate. In subsequent decades they seemed to have stopped that which is a shame.

The fight scenes were quite repetitive and inconsequential. There's way too many characters for no real reason. They rip off characters and skills from other canons for no good reason either. It almost seemed like many roles were cameos from their other films.

The reason for the grudge was extremely contrived.

All that said it was still a fun watch and you can see elements of this in later Hong Kong movies.
