Similarities to Lost finale.

I watched EoE a long time ago, but somehow the discussions and various rage/satisfaction people felt about the Lost finale reminded me of EoE. Both finales although different have the same feeling about them. Anyone felt the same?

Likewise. I am almost certain that those who hated EoE hated the end of Lost as well...

Couldn't help but think how Lost possibly drew inspiration from the series with all the flashbacks, biblical references and overall bizarre nature.

Just watched episode 15 of Season 6 again where they flashback to the skeletons in the cave. Interesting quote from John Locke: "Our very own Adam and Eve."

You should try watching the final Lost finale scene at the church with Komm Susser Todd in the background. It strangely fits...

A bit.

My only issue was that with Lost you could always tell it was a story. It was cool, it was awesome, and the ending was so polarizing because people had grown attached to the characters after YEARS of seeing the show, but it remained very detached from reality (like it probably should be).

EoE was different. It went beyond the story itself and reached out to the audience, sometimes directly (the live action scenes), sometimes cleverly (the masturbation scene). The overall tone was different too. I think it is truly impossible for anyone who has had any experience with depression to not be incredibly moved by the whole series (but particularly EoE). As he has stated, Evangelion was Anno's life, it wasn't just an idea he had, it was made up of ideas that he believes in, ideas that make up who he is as a person.

All in all, I felt Lost was touching, but EoE was MOVING.

The point being both show endings are liked by people who like to be touched in an emotional level by the characters and not just jerk off to logical and technical details.

Evangelion did reach out more to the audience, I'll give you that, but that's not what made it so great, it was just cute.

The overall tone was different since EoE did dwell more into Shinji than Lost did to Jack, and EoE was about depression and Lost was about accepting mortality, but both in the end were about how we deal with life. Both shows were moving in my opinion.

After the lost finale I was speechless for the rest of the day, something that I did not experience in any show since EoE (and maybe the ending of Cat's Cradle).

It's strange that so many people who watched Evangelion also watched LOST. For me they are the only serious TV shows I have ever watched from beginning to the end (I just don't watch a lot of tv).
But the endings were really different. Mostly because LOST finale was really simple to follow and understand. But I still have no idea what the hell happened in the EoE. I am going to rewatch the whole series and then I will watch the ending again. I hope that will help.

"After the lost finale I was speechless for the rest of the day"

Same happened to me.

I love this thread! My first thoughts after seeing the end of the series was a comparison between Lost and The Prisoner. All three have metaphysical, existential endings, although handled in completely different ways. All three confounded and pissed off a portion of their audience while other audience members saw past the surface to what was beneath and loved it. All three have endings that Coke full circle and I love endings like that.

I don't know if you're aware of this but I've already changed things. I killed Ben Linus.
