homoerotic

Is this the most homoerotic war film ever?

I don't know about the most homoerotic film ever made, but it certainly was homoerotic.

I don't know of any homoerotic war movies, and I don't think this movie is the slightest bit homoerotic.

If that's your thing, I'd recommend Vision Quest, Top Gun, or Tango & Cash, not war movies, but unintentionally extremely gay.

The soldiers were always in their tighty whities. And after the two soldiers were banging those two chicks, Colin Ferrell's character got uncomfortable because of the sexual tension, so he left, because he was not having it. Oh and it's not as homoerotic as those gay porn parodies of Saving Private Ryan.

If you consider locker rooms, barracks, and other places where men are in various states of undress to be "erotic" then any realistic film about military trainees, athletes, or others who are in situations where they use common facilities to change clothes, shower, etc. will seem "erotic".

There were a few scenes where homosexuality was strongly implied -
When the smallest, frailest, most boyish guy in the platoon gets sent to report, alone, to the Sgt in the weapons shed, and the Sgt gets his kicks by beating him up, it's probable that there was a rape as well as a beating.

The scene where Paxton and Bozz take the two girls to Bozz's hotel room, and after the sex is over, are more interested in talking with each other (while naked) than in paying any attention to the girls suggests that women are not that important - either due to chauvenism, latent homosexuality, or the simple fact that females in 1971 did not share the same relationship with the military and Vietnam that males did.

In this film, young men have to deal with emotional issues relating to other young men, while in a "macho" environment. Simple acts of friendship or human compassion can easily be interpreted as being "soft", "pussy", or "gay" in those situations, but violence and hostility are acceptably manly - which is one of the reasons that the hostility and violence tend to get out of control - as happens int his film.

There is nothing in the film to suggest that the kid was raped. You are making stuff up and seeing thing that aren't there. That Sgt was just getting revenge for that kid hooting for Bozz which he took as disrespect.

Also the scene of them ignoring the girls... again you're so stupid for even suggesting latent homosexuality. They JUST had sex (can you say refractory period) with two women they JUST met who are clearly also into it being JUST sex for that night. Which is why they don't really make a big stink about the dudes ignoring them and they leave for food. The two guys were also getting to know each other.

There is certainly some homoeroticism but nothing else to indicate the leads were attracted to one another sexually. Homosociality is sometimes conflated with eroticism and it's more of the former in the film.

I will say it would have been an interesting story and character development had Bozz and/or Paxton been bisexual. But then again the film was plenty interesting enough and well executed.

A lot of guys wore tighty whities at that time. My father wears those old fashioned briefs too.

This movie is homoerotic if you find violence and multiple forms of abuse to be erotic.

I thought that was Lawrence of Arabia.
