If Maximus had….

When Comodus says: “Take my hand, I only offer it once”, and Maximus instead heads to his quarters….he has a brief opportunity, as the soldiers began to gather at his door, to accept the sword that his handler had held out. He declined.

Had he accepted it, I think he could have fought his way through the guards…(especially if his handler was able to arm himself as well). He’d have had a puncher’s chance. Better odds than how he ultimately escaped execution anyway.

Her should have pretended to obey Commodus, then killed him later.

Instead he openly defied him and ended up where he did.

reply

Only that's not in keeping with Maximus' code of "strength and honour".

reply

Neither was that of Quintus

Agreed

reply

Agreed.

Granted, Quintus’ hands were tied…he had to follow the orders from Comodus. But what a bastard, knowing that Maximus and his family would be murdered. (Plus….he probably knew Maximus was right that Comodus killed his father).

Sure, Quintus SOMEWHAT redeemed himself at the end, but probably only because he knew Comodus was about to meet his end.

Quintus should have made behind the scenes arrangements for Maximus to escape.

"Quintus should have made behind the scenes arrangements for Maximus to escape."

Would you, Riken25, would I?
