Good Movie - Except That It's A Crock of S**t

Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie and good acting as usual from Denzel Washington. If you take it as fiction and not truth, it's an enjoyable way to spend two hours in front of the TV. The problem is the movie distorts facts and leads you to believe that a racist white cop did everything in his power to bring down Carter. Complete BS, never happened. But racism sells I guess. I'm hoping Norman Jewison directs the "true" story of the OJ Simpson murder case, or maybe the "true" story of Tawana Brawley and how she was gang raped by white racist police officers.

The movie doesn't say "This IS a True Story", it says "BASED on a True Story." Big difference.

So that justifies completely lying to the audience?

I understand that in attempting to tell true stories that take place over the course of days, weeks, months, or years all within 2 hours of film will result in omitting a few details and perhaps trimming down many characters and events into a more manageable number, but i don't see how that justifies straight-up lying to the audience and omitting CRUCIAL elements in order to make the story more appealing to movie-goers.

Either tell me the true story or tell me a fictional story. Don't take a true story and fill it full of made-up garbage when you know full well that many movie-goers will simply absorb it all as the truth.

Movies that say they are "based on a true story":

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Fargo
Good Morning, Vietnam
Argo
Cast a Giant Shadow
Hoosiers
Braveheart
Mississippi Burning
Sleepers
Cool Runnings
Heavenly Creatures
Operation Dumbo Drop
Fly Away Home
The Dish
The Mothman Prophecies
Hidalgo
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Munich
An American Crime
Rescue Dawn
Changeling
A Haunting in Connecticut
The Social Network

Most of them make up or change details. Fargo is complete fiction, except there really is a town called Fargo. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was inspired by Ed Gein, but the film bears little resemblance. Mississippi Burning, Cool Runnings, and The Dish take real life events, change names, motivations, and major events. Fly Away Home took a scientific experiment and crafted a touchy-feely movie about a girl and her dad. A Haunting in Connecticut took an already dubious claim and changed the details further (as did the TLC program, and every interview the Snedeckers gave). Cast a Giant Shadow fictionalized a great deal about Mickey Marcus, including giving him an affair.

If you want the full 100%, no bullsh!t story, you're going to have to crack open a book. I know, that sounds scary, but don't worry: it won't bite.

Many of those are terrible movies as well. Some for similar reasons, and some because they are just bad movies. What exactly is your point?

I clearly explained that i find it perfectly acceptable to cram a few things together, or leave out a few details in order to tell the story within a 2 hour timeframe. What I don't find acceptable is when the filmmakers REPEATEDLY and SEVERELY lie to the audience and then have the nerve to say "based on a true story".

The Hurricane lied from start to finish, and NOT in an attempt to cram the story into 2 hours, but instead to completely skew reality and show rubin carter as nothing more than a victim of repeated racism throughout his entire life, rather than the violent thug, career criminal, and repeat offender that he was.

What is it!!! maybe it's the low cost of phones with internet that all the racist's seem to have internet access and they seem to be commenting on every film that features a non-white story. I bet either Fox News/Koch Brothers or some other right wing nazi organisation is funding these stupid people to go on the net & spread their hate. This was the strategy of the right wing after Barack Obama got elected The President of the United States, Karl Rove said on Faux News that the right wing have to get more computer literate & I think these comments are due to that...pathetic.

Yeah you've already said exactly that in another thread. How about you actually try and refute what he has said, rather than just put your fingers in your ears and scream 'racism' just because you don't agree with his opinion? Or maybe even point out ANYTHING he has said in his posts which is even slightly racist? Moron.

A moron indeed. Way to bring up the race card because you don't like what someone says.
