What pills was the grandmother taking?

reply

They never actually gave a name of the medication that she was taking, but amphetamines were commonly used for weight loss and I think that's what they were supposed to be. Haven't read the book so I'm not sure if it's mentioned there.

As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

It was speed (diet pills). Leto confronted her about it.

He also referred to them as "crashers". Unsure if that's supposed to be as specific.

They're called Duromine in Australia.....very 'speedy'. Reaction of the character was spot on.....I once walked around my apartment block listening to people's front doors, trying to find out who was blasting music at 1am....couldn't find the culprit, would head back to bed, only to start hearing the music again...after 1hr of doing this, it finally occurred to me that the fan in my room turning was giving off a 'beat' in my head....yep, that *beep* can have bad effects.....

reply

The same *beep* they give kids who have "ADD" and you wonder why the youth is so messed up.
