An Anti-Drug message?

I hear a lot of people saying how this movie shows the true horrors of drug addiction. To a certain extent, I agree. I must say, this film kind of woke me up to the possible consequences of what addiction can do to our lives. But then again, the characters in this film were in some of the darkest circumstances ever. This film really took the consequences of drug addiction over the line...which is what made the film so great. In my opinion, Requiem for a Dream is more like a horror film, depicting the worst case scenarios of real life. I also think this film accurately depicts the concepts of escapism, denial, and delusion. It's not exactly one of those films that I could watch over and over. But it's definitely a film that you have to see at least just once. Very mind opening.

I watched it for the first time recently. Once is enough. A very dark and depressing look at drug abuse.

the movie just works for the lower class though. id like to see an anti-drug film for rich kids

Perhaps Traffic (2000)?

I've only seen it once and it's been awhile, but that's the only film that approximates that kind of film.

And yes, there is a much better film waiting to be made along those lines for sure.

isnt traffic about cartels?

i think the only film in that direction is alpha dog (2007)

Had to look it up (it's been awhile), and per IMDb:

"A conservative judge is appointed by the President to spearhead America's escalating war against drugs, only to discover that his teenage daughter is a crack addict."

That's the rich kid on drugs part of it, then also:

"Two DEA agents protect an informant. A jailed drug baron's wife attempts to carry on the family business."

Which of the three storylines dominates the film (if any) I can't remember.

either way, i imagine a film that starts funny and happy and ends in a drug nightmare. like requiem but in a posh environment.
