Patrick Fugit's performance went unnoticed

He was certainly better than good. Anyone else agree he didn't get his due praise?

reply

He turned in a fine performance. No question about it.

reply

I agree. Him and Kate Hudson gave the two best performances. I mean he was the center of the film, and a poor performance from an actor playing his character could've brought the whole film crashing down.

reply

He is a good actor. I've enjoyed him in every movie he's done since.

reply

He was incredibly lucky to have a wonderful cast to support him. He carried the film and he carried it well, but not without all that support around him. I think that if he wasn;t surrounded by talents like Hoffman, Crudup, Hudson and McDormand, the film might have crumbled around him despite his talents.

Pertty sure eveyone who watched the film noticed his performance.

One of the most convincing characters I’ve ever seen on film. Granted, Fugit’s profile has dimmed in recent years, but it seems by choice - and he’s still turning out terrific performances. Handsome devil too.

reply

I've really liked him in everything I've seen him in too. I think people agree he did a good job in this but he's definitely not usually even mentioned in the same breath as Kate Hudson, Frances Mcdormand, PSH, Crudup and several others despite being the focal point of the movie.
Wristcutters: A Love Story is one of my favorite movies of his, and of course Almost Famous.

reply

Very true, especially if you watch the movie now.

reply

Nah. Every scene where he was meant to be angry was embarrassing to watch. I'd say this was the best movie ever built around a lead performance by someone who can't act.

reply

Just like The Keanu. He's built an entire career being cast in roles surrounded by superior actors.

However his career turned out isn't really important for his role in Almost Famous.
I thought he was really good in the role. He wasn't just a sweet kid, he was truly overwhelmed by everything that happened.
But he was hardly unnoticed. He was nominated for some awards back in 2001. I believe he won a Critics Choice Award and nominated for other awards.
I seem to recall that he also got praise from most critics back then. So he got some attention.

He was just perfectly cast as this attractive, naïvely innocent, but talented kid, in the same manner as Kate Hudson was a perfect fit for Penny Lane.🐭
